These lamps were very
commonly used for decorative lighting or in stage lighting until relatively
recently. While more expensive than your average general lighting lamps,
they were still relatively inexpensive compared to more specialised competition
such as coloured glass PAR38 lamps.
The black paint all over the back of this was applied by me. This lamp was
originally used in an uplighter fixture which was almost directly at eye level
and the white light which originally leaked out around the neck of the lamp was
quite objectionable in that application.
