Notes: |
A good example here of a low pressure
sodium lamp which has operated a long and useful life before
eventually expiring of old age. The eventual failure mode being
cracking of the arc tube near to one of the electrodes. The lamp
would then have flashed over (due to the outer envelope suddenly
finding itself filled with the low pressure neon starting mixture from
the arc tube) at the base and blown the fuse in the lamp cap due to the
high current draw.
